And so the Nightmares begin…

Well, the wedding day nightmares have officially begun. At approximately 3:00 this morning, I jolted from my bed, absolutely soaked in a nervous sweat, ready to PLAN.THIS.WEDDING. First, the dream:

My parents wake me up the morning of my wedding, claiming that we have only an hour to get everything loaded and to the venue. I leap up and run to the “wedding room” (a.k.a., my office, which has recently been taken over by a mountain of candle lanterns, vases, and stationary kits), expecting to see beautiful floral arrangements and candy dishes… Only to find that it looks exactly like it does in reality right now. None of the decorations have been put together, the invitations haven’t been sent, the caterer hasn’t been confirmed, and my dress hasn’t been altered. As we pull into the valet parking, my father takes at least 30 minutes longer to park than is necessary while my mom and I attempt to create makeshift centerpieces from large rocks and metallic tissue paper… What?! Naturally, my biggest concern is that we have no fruit from the caterer (remember, that was one of Jer’s “Must Have” items), so my mom and I frantically call my many aunts and beg them to bring watermelons and cut them during the ceremony. Just as I come down the stairs to walk down the aisle ever so carefully as to not rip my overly large dress, I see Jeremiah — dressed in swim trunks and an unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt and…

I’m awake.

Realistically, I think we all know this won’t happen. I’m not getting married tomorrow, there are six months until the wedding, and I am the QUEEN of list-making. Everything will get done, and hopefully ahead of time (although let’s face it — I’m also the QUEEN of procrastination). Honestly, I think this is my inner Bridezilla coming out through my subconscious. Secretly (or not) I am absolutely obsessed with everything being unique, beautiful, and above all else, perfect. Naturally.

I have always had perfectionistic tendencies, and this rather major event in my life is nowhere near safe from them.

Regardless of what my nightmare was trying to tell me, it did remind me that I needed to A) Update the blog and B) Check in with what I HAVE accomplished so far (to make me feel better about the ever growing To-Do). Below are some of the things I/we HAVE done:

  1. Reserved the venue and date
  2. Met with and confirmed the DJ (Hurray for musical friends!)
  3. Found a cake baker (Hurray for pastry chef friends!)
  4. Confirmed a florist (Hurray for flower arranging friends!)
  5. Researched, tasted, and confirmed a meal caterer
  6. Determined our deco theme… We like to call it “Urban Forest” (gag… Cheese…)
  7. ORDERED THE DRESS! Although we all know how that’s turned out so far.
  8. Engagement Photos!
  9. Designed, printed, and sent most Save the Dates
  10. Designed the invitations
  11. Began collecting candle lanterns and LED candles (thanks Mom!)
  12. Chose our bridal party and the girls’ dresses
  13. Booked the honeymoon (minus the flights)

I know, I know… You’re wondering how I went from having nothing done to THIS. When you take a step back and look at it, it’s really been a productive five months since we became engaged. I’ll admit — I’m about 2 1/2 months late in updating the blog, but I will write in detail about each of these items as soon as I get a chance. 🙂

We’ve got all the major details figured out, but we’re definitely missing some important details. Jeremiah and I hope to tackle the next list in the coming weeks:

  1. Confirm ceremony musicians (which shouldn’t be too difficult considering my career and uber-musical family)
  2. Ask a certain someone to officiate our ceremony
  3. Revamp and confirm our menu
  4. Talk to the groomsmen… Apparently Jer STILL hasn’t actually talked to the guys about the wedding…
  5. Book our flights to Kauai!
  6. Discuss some important details with our venue coordinator

I love the dream. Just remember my dear friend everything is coming together and before you know it the day will be here! All the months of planning and stress will be over and you can enjoy life with your husband. 🙂
