The Hunt for the Perfect Venue

I’ve already mentioned that Jeremiah and I started venue hunting long before we were engaged, but I refused to reserve anything and become that bride… the one who has every detail hashed out before she even has a fiance. Plus, it really is important that Jeremiah has his say in the items he as expressed interest in. Since the venue can determine everything else, I knew this would be an important search to involve him in.

Jeremiah would love to get married on a golf course, so that’s where we “officially” started. There are tons and tons of beautiful courses in Denver, but there was one in particular that caught our eyes: The Arrowhead Golf Course. Set in far southwest Littleton, the views from this venue are surreal, and seem like they could be cut straight from design ideas for a Sci-Fi movie. When we stepped out of our car in the parking lot, this was our first impression:

Like, WHOA. No, but really, WOW.

We were sold immediately — beautiful scenery, onsite catering/bar services, linens, the works. And all for a $1000 venue rental fee… or so we thought. In our meeting with the event coordinator, we were constantly amazed by all they could offer, including a golf cart after the ceremony for picture runs. Jeremiah was ecstatic! Can you imagine the pictures here?

As we got further and further into the discussion with the coordinator, we kept hearing the word “package”. We soon came to realize that this required package was not an option for us — as a minimum, it would have cost $65 per guest. For us, that would have come to a total of over $18,000 for the venue, food, and beverage alone! Sadly, we struck that off the list.

Next stop was my favorite from the start. I heard about this location last winter, and had basically decided it was The Place at that time.

The Mile High Station is, in my humble opinion, the most beautiful and unique wedding venue in Colorado. Located almost literally below West Colfax near the football stadium, this former ironworks building features the original brickwork and steel I-beams, as well as a new bar and fantastic industrial chandeliers. The support posts and upper mezzanine area allow for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception to be held in the same single-room area, while having very distinct locations. Check it out:

The chandeliers are INCREDIBLE! And the whole space seems to glitter when they’re on. It’s a completely blank canvas, and could be decorated to the nines or left to its own beauty:

When we  met Stephanie, the Director of Sales and go-to person for the venue, we knew we had found a good match. She was friendly, to the point, and easy to talk to. The only issue was the cost… despite the relatively low venue rental price, there are many requirements that add up. Between having to meet a minimum alcohol cost, use their preferred caterers, and rent linens, flatware, and china, choosing to have our wedding and reception there could end up costing us more than other places we had been looking at.

Since seeing the Mile High Station, we’ve basically stopped looking. We haven’t decided if we can really afford it yet, but we did put a date on hold! Stayed tuned for our final decision in the coming weeks!
