Ordering your wedding gown and bridesmaid dresses

Ladies please, please, please take some time to let this one soak!!!

Somehow there are still brides and bridesmaids out there that expect their dresses to arrive as soon as yesterday. As frustrating as waiting can be this is one you are going to have to tough it out if you want to order regular bridesmaid dresses or your wedding gown. Even at places like David’s Bridal you will have to wait a period of time for a dress order if they don’t have your size or color and the regular bridal boutiques require a MINIMUM of 3 months… Instead of letting the wait time crawl under your skin turn it into “peace of mind” time…meaning you are making a quality choice and all that money you put into it will be worth it. I couldn’t imagine paying $600-$6000 for a dress that only took one-two weeks to make…uh no!

Oh, and the lovely dilemma of dress sizes. Know that wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses typically run 1-2 sizes smaller. They are the truest to “real” sizes we will ever get. So don’t let the size get to you when the consultant takes your measurements or if they recommend you go up a size. With your bridesmaids, please make sure they go into a bridal boutique and get measured professionally or go to the store you are putting in the order to try  sizes on before ordering. Too many a time bridesmaids give the wrong measurements for the order and when the dress comes in they are upset and there is no time for re-ordering. Not the tension you want to have when the big day is near. This brings up another point, let them take care of sizing and ordering instead of you…this relieves you of any blame if it doesn’t fit.

Another road block brides run into is the order of a dress/dresses vs. ordering and paying in full. Most stores will put in the order for your wedding gown or bridesmaid dresses but will not actually send the order out until the order is paid in full. What does this mean? This means you need to make sure you calculate your wait time into when you can pay your gown off and you also need to thoroughly explain to your bridesmaids that not one dress can be shipped until ALL dresses are paid in full, so know the deadline and get those payments in!

Okay so you get it! Plan ahead and make sure you and your bridesmaids clearly understand the time-line you are on for ordering your dresses and stay calm. The wedding industry is quirky and money thirsty but the people helping you actually do want to help you and make your experience pleasant. They are doing their job to their best ability and do what they can to make your wedding the absolute best!  Alright, now go have fun with your dress styles, be unique, be elegant, and most of all…be yourself!
